After '86 the H.O. 5.0L and truck engine switched to the E7TE head but the S.O. 5.0L engine in passenger cars continued using the E6SE head until the 5.0L ceased production.

It was described as a masked intake high swirl intake head. It's not really recommended for high performance as you will gain more flow and compression using the e7 heads. If they are E7TE, roll with them, but if they're E6TE, don't waste your time. Another drawback COULD be the pistons. If you're intent on keeping the 1986 motor and you plan to run an aftermarket cam, newer heads, or both, you'll need pistons with valve reliefs.
